I mention that a Desp. from W: De Long to Wc Fish on the subject of The Bonin Islands is published on page 655 of the Congressional documents of the U.S. (For. Relations) for 1874, together with a reply from Mr. Fish declining all those islands, & stating that American citizens who have settled there have relinquished the rights, as well as the duties, of citizens of The US.
